Finding original MG34 charging handles can be very difficult nowadays. Even if you have a nice original handle on your gun, why risk damaging this rare and valuable part. This is especially important for semi auto MG34s where the charging handle must ride forward under the full force of the mainspring to chamber the first round.
These are drop-in ready replacements for original MG34 charging handles. We made these for maximum durability and easy of service. Unlike original charging handles, we designed these so the the spring tab and cocking piece are attached by button head screws rather than rivets so they can be easily repaired or replaced if necessary. The cocking piece is a machined and hardened tool steel. It's made from the same material we use in our machine gun bolts and available as a replacement part in our store (replacement cocking piece link). The base assembly is made from 4140 with mild hardness to avoid breaking. The front spring tab engages the barrel jacket bolt catch just as the original. The handle is diamond knurled to match the appearance of the original handle. The assembly also functions with the safety locking system as per the original design.

Assembly and Function Notes:
It's important for the spring tab to positively engage both the bolt catch lever and the retaining 'spike' on the barrel jacket. The inside "V" cut on the spring tab must positively engage the 'spike' on the barrel jacket so the charging handle doe not slide backward when the bolt in cycling or in the rear position. Note the inward bend on the spring tab to ensure engagement.
